Mama

I call my grandma "mama", and so do many others in this part of the world. Today I went to visit mama at the hospital. She's not quite physically ill, but she's got dementia.

Because she refused to take her pills and got increasingly suspicious and angsty, we had to admit her, and ever since, she's gotten loads better.

Today we took her downstairs and strolled about with her. She held my wrist so surprisingly tight that my hand started turning red.

Visiting her gives me hope nowadays, but some part of me still knows that she isn't quite herself.
