Wet and miserable today
Wet and foulish day today. Took the dogs out to the Hermitage this morning to find it a sea of mud and felled trees - even more than last time. There is a big board by the entrance now, explaining their 'three year plan' for the woodland management. I suggest they start by not cutting down everything in sight, for starts....
Apparently trees are cut if they're 'crowding' each other, overhanging the path and thus a hazard (actually one of the things that made it such a pleasant walk on hot sunny days) and if they were 'diseased'. We looked round at the cut off stumps of healthy trees; of trunks of good straight woodlands lying ready to be collected all over the place - and I mean all over the place - and we just about wept.
Does anyone know of a good 'tree activist group' who could step in and stop Edinburgh council wrecking yet another piece of beautiful wooded park? I'm seriously thinking about contacting them.
