Brigid's Fire

Brigid's feast day is February 1, but I happened to be out in Sli an Chroi (Way of the Heart) today where cuz stayed overnight. Fr Seamus was telling me how they had a day of reflection on her feast day by lighting a fire in this stone pit, and left it lighting for the day.

I hadn't realised that Brigid is named after the pagan goddess of Fire, whose manifestations are in the form of poetry, craftsmanship, and song. In Ireland these were considered the flame of knowledge.

Cuz and I motored on to Carlow where I was treated to lunch and we both bought the same bag, went for coffee and then home.

A lovely Spring day today.
