The last Lecture
"What wisdom would you try to impart to the world if you knew it was your last chance?"
This is what we ask a few times a year to professors (so far, in the future other people will be included as well) to inspire them to give an interesting lecture. A lecture where it is no longer only the subject matter that is at stake, but the very core of one?s own existence and meaning derived thereof. Next week Thursday the fifth edition of "the Last Lecture" at Tilburg University will take place and right now we are busy promoting the event.
This time it will be a historian Professor Lesaffer will speak about the problematic of history as a scientific discipline during the 20th century. As history is about telling stories, in this lecture he will tell his story of his life and how it makes him who he is.
It will also be, for the first time in the last lecture history we broadcast it live. I'm exited but there is still lots of promotion to do before that.
btw, if you like the idea you should check out Randy Pausch, from were we got the idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo
