World Buskers Festival

Christchurch hosts the World Buskers Festival every year. Many of the acts are brilliant beyond words. This one was actually pretty crappy, but it made a nice photo.

The British viewers may be interested to know the flowers in the background are part of the floral "Coronation Clock", created in 1953 to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. There's a wee gem of info for you!

Here are a few more.

The coronation took place on 2 June 1953.

New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary died a few days back. He is perhaps best known for completing the first ascent of Mt Everest, along with Tenzing Norgay, on 29 May 1953.

Communications being what they were, news reached Britain on the same day as the coronation. I understand the newspaper headlines read "All this and Everest too"

The jounalist who transmitted the news report from Nepal subsequently had a sex change operation and changed his/her name from John to Jan.
