train of doom
took one of the older trains that run on the Fife circle toady, generally prefer them since they have a "real" locomotive and wagons. But today they turned out to be absolutely horrible.
Strangely enough the train actually left on time from Waverly Station, but between Haymarket and South Gyle, the locomotive seemed to have hit something on the lines because the traction generator started smoking, and the train had to go slower than normal. Just before Dalmeny Station we had to go into a loop to let 2 high speed trains past and that was our doom. The locomotive broke down and the lights in the front wagon (mine) died. We sat and waited a total of approx 2 1/2 hours waiting for a second locomotive to come and pick us up so the train journey could continue. Luckily I had a good book with me and I managed to read about 250 pages in the time after I changed to a wagon with working lights.
The best part of the whole thing though were the 4 semi-drunk guys trying to get to some kind of rugby or football match and they were thinking of just jumping of the train to walk the 300m to the next station. In the end they didn't have the guts to jump out of the window, which was probably better for them. was entertaining though how they argued that a match was more important to them than a burning traction generator :D
