More reflections of a blipper

Natland Mill Beck Lane, Kendal

The round chimney is a characteristic feature of many old Lakeland houses. This lane is on the outskirts of Kendal and once would have been distant from the town. Urban expansion means that housing has encroached to within a narrow field's width of the row of old cottages, while opposite the lane's entrance, Kendal's first large super-market was built 20 years ago. The Lane is the route we take for lunch-time walks to the river Kent.

Today, there were oystercatchers in the field enclosed by the big meander in the river. They are starting to move back onto their breeding grounds, another sign of the coming Spring. At this time of the year, we hear their piping calls at night as they fly over our house in Arnside. They are never far away as we are so close to the estuary, but we hear them now as they spend more time inland feeding in the fields around Arnside Tower. I will try and blip them, but today they were far too wary to allow me near enough.

It was good to get away from work for an hour. Talk is dominated by discussions around the 1000 word Selection forms that we have to complete in the next week. Matt's frustration came out in his blip rant yesterday. Trying times.
