Redhead

In winter, Goosander can be found in small numbers on the river in Sheffield City Centre. This one was on the Don not far from Lady's Bridge.

This is a "redhead" - the name given to females/juveniles of sawbill ducks, including Mergansers and Smew, and Goldeneye. Male Goosanders look very different, with handsome white, black and green plumage.
