Threshing (or maybe Winnowing?!)

I wasn't planning a lot tonight, so when I got a text asking if I wanted to help thresh some wheat I thought it would be rude not to. Apparently this fun bit where you throw the grain in the air is actually winnowing, but I had never done that either...especially not on a street in the centre of town.

The wheat was grown and harvested by some gardeners, including my friend Jessie, who is in the middle of the picture winnowing. After winnowing the grain was milled (by hand) and we all got a little bag of flour to take away.
