The 100 Workers memorial.
I saw a monument downtown with a hundred plaques like this and I had no idea what they were but I found it kind of odd. Naturally, I took a picture of it (with my phone though).
I looked it up online and it says:
' "100 Workers"
is a monument commemorating the workers of Ontario who died in the workplace. A selection of actual incidents, one from each of the years between 1901 and 2000 has been chosen to honour workers who have lost their lives in workplace accidents. An open plaque at the east end signifies the accident that has not yet happened.'
I think it sucks that this is the way that these workers will be remembered but I guess it does serve as a reminder about safety in the workplace...which is always good, right?
