No Hands
I am beginning to lose track of my mind. I told you all only yesterday that I was going to an exhibition of Don McCullin's work today, of course, what I meant to say was that I was going to a Steve McCurry exhibition today. Put it down to advancing old age. I had been looking at some of McCullin's Vietnam War shots and couldn't get his name out of my head.
Well McCurry's work was amazing and his portraits were the most haunting I have seen since viewing Sebastio Salgado's work 5 or 6 years ago. The exhibition will continue until April 24th at the Gallery of Photography in Dublin and all my Irish blip friends should make a point of popping in. The show includes of course his iconic Afghan girl shot and the later one of the same girl as a grown woman. The general impression of the show is one of sadness at the plight of so many underprivelidged people but that should not put you off seeing it. An absolutely cracking exhibition and a "must see".
On my way from the train station I passed through Grafton Street. Wafting up the street were the unmistakeable airs of "Oh my Papa" on a trumpet or similar instrument. When I got closer I realised it was being played by a busker who had no hands, obviously a victim of Thalidomide. How he managed to play this instrument is a mystery but not only could he play it, but he was pretty good at it too. Just got the one shot, which is my blip for the day.
Many thanks for all your Happy Birthday wishes from yesterday. A small quantity of red wine has been consumed with dinner, so normal service may not be resumed until tomorrow. Have a nice weekend everybody.
