Sea of Mud
It's always the same at the English National Cross Country! Today was probably worse than usual as on the journey down to Alton Towers snow was falling and settling to a fair depth in the surrounding area.
At the actual event there wasn't any snow, but, if you weren't ankle deep in mud, you were ankle deep in standing water. I'm not sure that you should expect anything else, the numbers running are quite amazing for a Cross Country. The main Women's race usually tops out at around 500 finishers and the Mens can reach 1,500 !!
Charlotte found the going particularly hard, and I'm not surprised! By the time the Mens race came around, 3pm, they (whoever they are) deemed the course too dangerous for the full race so reduced it to 10k (from 12). I still wouldn't have fancied slogging round that, so I didn't - good call I think!
