the rituals
The BIG day for the bride and the groom today. Hindu weddings are very heavy on rituals - especially in the countryside where customs are generally followed by the book. Lot of these may not be relevant today, many might beat the reason of logic. India, for one is driven very strongly by beliefs...there are instances where things are driven more by belief than reason, which I find very interesting. Belief without reason can arise only from faith - a virtue that makes things work in this part of the world.
The custom that you see here involves one of the leading ladies of the groom's family take a holy dip and then carry some of the same water from the nearby river or lake. This water is used to bathe the groom, which is believed not only to cleanse but purify the groom. There were other pictures from the wedding but I chose this one over others as this has some of the village scene as well which I always wanted to show on blip.
