A punctured engine

This is the engine of our previous car. The engine quite suddenly stopped working and we've now got another car.
The garage showed me the hole in the bottom of the block, which was caused by a large axis which was pushed outside.

The hole is larger than a fist and it must have been quite some force that has driven the axis outside.
