Nikau
Today I was flying from Christchurch to Hokitika (from one side of the South Island the other) to meet the family. Sadly, bad weather meant all the flights for the day were cancelled.
Into the car I jumped and 3.5 hours later I arrived, along with a number of photos, at the campground where the family was staying.
The West Coast (or "Coast", as it is affectionately known) has a more tropical climate than the rest of the South Island, partly due to the amount of rain. Nikau palms are an interesting feature of the coastline, in some parts they are everywhere, and very iconic.
Of the many images I took I also loved this one.
