i have blipped this book, 'Where There Is No Doctor', before. i think it was in 2008 or something, before I went to Malawi for the first time. the subject of that blip was 'you cannot cure a goiter by smearing the brains of a vulture on it'. That has been immensely useful to me in zambia, clearly.

today's tip is 'you cannot cure a baby's soft spot by hanging the baby upside down or by using magic'. i wish it was a joke but people here will go to a witchdoctor for anything.

i read the bit about childbirth and then had to go and have a lie down because I felt ill. i sometimes think i'd be a better missionary if i went and re-trained as a nurse or something. and then i nearly faint reading a book and realise that would be a silly thing to do.
