Portrait or Landscape?

This was the theme of our first outdoor photography session this morning, spent in pouring rain and freezing cold, walking the Prom. with 8 fellow students! We were very pleased to withdraw into the warmth of the seafront cafe to recharge our batteries - and I'm not talking about our cameras!
Anyway, the focus of our trip was to take the same shots using portrait and landscape, and, hopefully, creating a sharp image with a soft background. Although it worked slightly, I'm limited with an ordinary point and shoot camera, but I understood the value of the exercise.
This one was another that I quite liked.
