The smell of oil

Today we set off for the National Space Center. We've been before, it's not so far away. However, it seems we were not the only people who had that idea as a half term trip. When we got to the entrance, there was a 50 minute wait just to get a ticket in.
We decided that under the circumstances, as we'd been before, we'd do something else, so we went across the road to the Abbey Road Pumping Station. a free museum based on an old Victorian pumping station, which features a display of old Victorian things, including drainage and sewage. Yes you can even flush a toilet and follow the water down transparent pipes!

Here is one of the old pump engines, smelling strongly of oil and greased rods.
