Signature dish

The lodger (Ian) caught in the middle of creating his signature dish, aka baked bean pie (BBP, to those in the know) whilst wearing the Jamie Oliver apron that was a present for Neil at Christmas (do try to keep up, it's a complex household but there are only 3 of us). Anyway, going back to the culinary masterpiece, it's a tricky recipe, consisting of 2 ingredients - the contents of a packet of pastry mix, plus the contents of a tin of baked beans. This complexity does apparently require that flour is distributed across all available kitchen surfaces during the manufacturing process, so the raising of my left eyebrow in disapproval was required several times during the post-assembly cleaning up procedure.

Anyway, to return to the completely irrelevant point I was attempting to make, the aforementioned BBP was a takeaway present for tonight's dinner guests, who were otherwise force-fed vast quantities of minestrone soup with croutons, mushroom risotto and chocolate mousse (orange and lemon versions), and could barely fit through the front door on their way out, in living testament to my portion control issues. The leftover pastry from the BBP extravaganza was not discarded however, but was made into Ian's signature dish number 2 - currant surprise. Well, surprises, to be exact, since there were 7 of them. In the interests of suspense, I'll let you guess what the surprise is ...
