Today I have a special friend coming round for coffee, so I thought I'd nip out for an hour to Damflask reservoir in the hopes of bagging maybe a heron, or some sort of gull, to keep this challenge alive. Sometimes when your expectations are not high, the most amazing things happen. I saw a sparrowhawk tucking into a pigeon, a buzzard soaring above, not just a heron, but a whole heronry - 5 birds, one clearly nest building high up in the canopy, and lots of other stuff. In terms of photogenisity, though, this guy has to take the prize. One of those things you see in books and think - they can't possibly look like that. But they do.
