Rhubarb Rhubarb Rhubarb

A bright note on a dull day and promise of many puddings to come. It will soon be the first crop of the year. Lovely crumble and fool.

Our Rhubarb is old and huge. I moved it once almost 20 years ago, even then it took most of the day to did out the rhizome. As well as our patch parts of the rhizome that split off were given to friends and still crop heavily each year.

I like the way new leaves start crumpled in the bud and then unfurl to their full form. I can picture the leaf flattening out and pink stem lengthening over the next few weeks.

Rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb is also a popular theatre direction for general background conversation, a meaningless hubbub.

Generally tastes best with custard.
