Mt. Roup
I was going to post an atmospheric shot of the skin up to Mt. Roup through the undulating terrain below the Genepy, with the Sanna in the background (my battery died as we were setting off on the walk so I didn't take any pictures of the ski down).
But then this photo came through, taken by my guide today, Chris 'Cheeky' Souillac. And what a good picture it is too! Makes me look like a proper skier.
It's not easy to take these pictures. You can't see anything in the viewfinder/screen because of the glare of the sun off the snow, so it's a case of pointing, following the action and clicking.
Thanks Chris!
Today was absolutely stunning, by the way. Something about the air enhanced the crispness of the mountain contours against the clear blue sky. The long traverse and shuffle under the Genepy ridge brought us to the quiet solitude of the back country, far from the madding crowds of this busy holiday week. The skin up to Mt. Roup gives wonderful views of the impressive Sanna, and the view from the (almost) summit across to the Mean Martin is a highlight of off piste skiing in Val d'Isere.
The ski down was pretty good too!
