Patriotism
I get a little kick when I pass here on the way to & from work. The flags & upside-down houses belong to a local family company "Baufritz", probably Germany's leading quality wood house builders. No log cabins but real high tech with a high focus on environment and health. They are the largest employers in the local area (over 250) and have been heaped with all sorts of awards.
I seem to remember they had a UK tree guru as a consultant. In this very rural (most cows/m² in Germany) and in this also very traditional area, it is notable that the MD is a woman, with numerous awards for her business acumen.
They have a UK office, so for anyone thinking of building and with a healthy bank balance, it's worth visiting their English website www.baufritz.com/uk/
When I win the lottery, I will be giving them a call! I like their sense of humour - OK the name alone "Baufritz" would bring a smile to any Englishman - but apart from the upside-down houses (see the three in the background) there are other "objects" on their premises which bring a smile. Will have to Flickr some photos
Anyone flying with Ryanair from Stanstead to Munich West will probably pass the site as it is directly on the Munich to Lake Constance autobahn at Erkheim almost at the end of the "Munich West" airport. By the way, don't be disappointed that Munich is 100km away, the airport is, in fact, Memmingerberg and Switzerland is exactly the same distance away in the opposite direction.
