Theosophical Society
We went to a talk at the Edinburgh Theosophical Society this evening. This was founded in the 1870s by, among others Helena Blavatsky who can be thought of as the founder of new-age thinking. I don't really understand the ins and outs of Theosophy, but I think it is a sort of spiritual development thing whereby one can find true enlightenment. It is believed that a great teacher called Maitreya will come and direct us, if only we will listen.
It probably ought not to have come as a surprise to me then that the talk tonight was perhaps a little too far out for me. Nice place though, the Society is lodged in a very lovely townhouse in Great King Street.
