The Physiobench of Doom

Tonight's pic is of the "Physiobench of Doom". This has been the scene of all manner of hellish torture. I spent a visit here last week trying to crawl off the end of the bench as my physio "loosened" my Iddly Tiddly Band (the kids' pronunciation). Tonight was a relatively calm visit with a bit of acupuncture and some noodling with my left calf.

The rest of the evening has been spent in the company of Ruth: someone I had a "bit of a thing for" back in the heady days of Sixth Form. She was up visiting her family and we arranged at short notice to go for a drink and reminisce. Very pleasant but all a bit weird: where does one begin after 20 years?! We chatted about old times and asked the predictable questions I guess one does in these situations. It was, however, pretty obvious that the world had moved on. The answer to each question was followed by a short, slightly awkward silence as both of us scrabbled around for something else to ask. It has just been pointed out that it must have looked to other folk in the pub like a blind date - one where it quickly becomes apparent that there isn't much chemistry or common ground. We did have a laugh as we compared notes on how our respective lives had panned out but it was all a bit stilted. It ended, as we went out separate ways, with, "We must do this again. Call me when you're next up here." It was said, at the time, with total sincerity, but on reflection I feel much less certain. Facebook is great for re-establishing connections but tonight has caused me to question the wisdom of trying so hard to track down long lost friends.

Hmm...a rambling blip, the bulk of which has no relevance to the pic. Oops! London with Clare tomorrow so lots of opportunity for good blipage this weekend! :-)
