Lesley's day by day

Out of place

Today Bill took me for lunch to the Soul bar on Union Street - the former Langstane Kirk that from 1869-1999 had been a church in the centre of Aberdeen. It was built by James Mathews in 1869 in the Gothic Style. There are 12 triptych stained glass windows like this one in the bar and they were designed by John Aiken.

This is 'The Carpenter's Window' and was dedicated to the memory of Mrs AR Russell who had been a faithful member of the congregation from 1883-1940. I bet she never thought she would see the day when her church was a bar and a casino. I must admit to feelings of concern when I see a church building become a casino and think on Jesus in the temple - what would he do now with the Soul bar and casino!!
