Pemberley/Lyme Park, Cheshire
"It has been coming on so gradually, that I hardly know when it began. But I believe I must date it from my first seeing his beautiful grounds at Pemberley." Elizabeth Bennet, speaking of her love for Mr Darcy (Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen).
Lyme Park was used for the external shots of Pemberley in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.
The building on the hill is called 'The Cage'. It was originally a hunting lodge and was later used as a park-keeper's cottage and as a lock-up for prisoners.
