Another common mode of transportation in Bangkok is vans. The van my friend and I rode had 22 seats plus one for the driver. It's squishy, but it works. Sometimes you pay before getting on the van, but today no one was taking money, so we got on and began to ride. After picking up a few other people, a basket was passed around. Each person put 25 Baht in the basket, taking change out if necessary. I was impressed at how smoothly the process went.
