Ancient Sweet Chestnut

During a rather lovely plod around Chirk castle grounds today I thought i would take an abstract of a rather beautiful Sweet Chestnut tree that resides in the grounds, the trunk is over 3m in diameter and it is reputed to be over 1000 years old.

Difficult to do anything interesting with the tree itself but the old branches that are littered around are simply stunning with some beautiful textures enhanced by some rather nice lichens
