Cancelled.....

Today we were planning to head up to Cape Smokey, about an hour away, to do a bit of downhill skiing.....it got cancelled....and here's why!

First of all, i should just make mention of the wonderful thing that is going on at Cape Smokey - this small ski resort, has been around for many years, but about 4 years ago it was closed down, it's owned by the government, and the revenues weren't up to snuff...and there hadn't been a whole of of snow! so, it's been sitting dormant for these past 4 years. Well this year, a bunch of avid volunteers decided enough was enough...they wanted their ski hill back in operation! and it is....it's open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, just one of the pommel lifts is in operation...but it's getting great attendance and there is a possibility of it being bought - so yeah to all the wonderful volunteers!

Now back to the 'cancellation' saga! We have had a young couple staying in one of the cabins, and we've had lots of rain, then more snow....they don't have a very appropriate vehicle.....or foot wear i might add.....and they got their frigg'n truck stuck just a few feet from the top of the driveway.....and then whilst backing down, to try again, they slid into a huge snow bank!! Long story short....it took poor Terry, with 2 different vehicles....an hour and a half to get them on their way. By this time, even with all the lunches, coffee, treats, ski goggles etc packed and ready to go....when we did the math, we'd probably get about 2 hours on the hill! hardly worth the 2 hours in the car and the $40 it would have cost us! So, with some disappointment we changed gears. We headed up to another potter friend, i needed to borrow some material for my glaze....and just had a nice little drive, it was sunny but cold, but would have been a good day to ski!

oh well....this is one of the glass balls hanging in a tree outside Sarah's pottery studio!
