Behind where I live, another storey of this building is slowly taking shape. Health and safety don't seem to feature here, as the standing on an oil drum, wearing sandals, tying in the metal rods that will eventually be encased with concrete testifies...

Most buildings here tend to get built with the metal peeping through the roof so that when money permits, an extra storey can be added.

In the light of recent events in the southern hemisphere, its a sobering thought to know that the Kathmandu Valley is an earthquake zone, and that the next major earthquake is 'overdue'. Frankly many of the buildings in the Valley are not going to withstand it...
