Pinpoint Celestial Navigation
This morning before the sun came up, I calculated that the azimuth of the sun would be 098 degrees true when the sun was four degrees above the horizon. So I took position on the other side of the Retriever and waited for the sun to come up. I also calculated that my distance towards the Retriever had to be two cables to have the sun exactly at the top of her aft mast. It was a close call, very close but not perfect, because I forgot to correct my calculations for my own eyeheight of 12 meters. I am ashamed.
