About 10 years ago I retired after 40 years working in education. I live in Tavistock on the western edge of Dartmoor. So one of my many interests has to be walking on the moor. I'm also into cycling. A couple of years ago I completed the ubiquitous 900 mile Lands End to John o' Groats run and last year I cycled the 850 mile La Velodissee cycle route down the western coast of France. I am passionate about the countryside and 'green' issues so I am a volunteer with a charity, Moor Trees, which is involved in restoring native woodlands to the Dartmoor region. For the last two years I have been learning the trombone and hope to play in a band sometime soon. I'm heavily into music of all sorts - but mainly jazz, funk and rock. I used to write a lot of electronic music but recently this has given way to the trombone. I also brew (and drink!) beer. And I drink copious amounts of wine!
I've been interested in photography for many years. I got my first SLR in the mid seventies - a very heavy, robust Russian Zenith film camera. Being totally manual and everything having to be set by hand I learnt a lot about the technicalities of using a camera. I've recently been trying to find a 'direction' I want to go in with photography and I've been veering more and more into 'street' photography and 'capturing the essential moment' rather than heavily contrived and edited stuff. A friend recently told me about Fotoblip and after a couple of hours browsing through the site I was hooked - it was just what I was looking for! I love the blog aspect and enjoy very much getting little glimpses into other people's lives. I hope they will enjoy getting little glimpse into mine. I'm hoping to blip every day - but we'll see.
