Between fen and mountains

MG V8

We were invited for coffee and cake with friends in Py. It was warm enough to congregate in the garden and we exchanged news with people we had not seen since the last such occasion. Two of our friends arrived in their splendid MG convertible. The roar of the V8 engine announced their arrival. The car only comes out on high days and holidays and has given quite a bit of trouble mechanically, but it still looks splendid. I went up to the village market in the morning and met my tennis partner Bernard with his fox terrier puppy. Fortunately, the dog is recovering after eating a processionary caterpillar which nearly cost her her life. After several days at the veterinary hospital in Perpignan, she recovered, but the bill was over €1000! There are signs all over the village warning of the dangers to animals and humans of these caterpillars at this time of the year. They can be seen in long lines a metre or so long. The hairs on their bodies are an extreme irritant and can cause serious problems if touched, or worse, ingested.
