Tried to do this myself but in the end asked a graphic designer friend which made everything so much more professional.
Use a lot of photography in my work though more as reference material.
Everything from old family photos to quick snap shots in the steet.
Used to have a great Pentax but now the ease and great quality of my iPhone 6 is the main source of photos at the moment.
From time to time do pinhole photo which has a real magic quality.
