In the past I have been a very keen photographer mainly using film and doing my own developing and printing since the early 1950's. I moved to digital as well, some years ago, shortly after digital cameras became available.  In recent years I have not used my cameras very much, partly due to health constraints, but also because the lack of need for technical skill has removed part of the challenge. My wife, Arkensiel Photography, has at last (Feb 2012) nagged me into digging out some cameras and starting to use them again.

I intend to use blip as a photo journal and repository for a brief record of my daily life, much of what I put up may only be of interest to me, but I hope that some others might also get enjoyment from it. Some (most) days my blips will be uninspiring or (unvaried) as I will probably find nothing much to blip.

At present, we are intermittently conducting quite a bit of building work on our 200+ year old house, it is intermittent, because we have now fired two lots of builders and I am finishing it myself, but weather, health problems and other diversions are intervening much of the time, causing slow progress. However, there are still likely to be a large number of building photos.

My background is that I am a retired chartered engineer with a very solid background in electronics, optics, most areas of engineering and of the physical sciences. I also have a fairly solid background in many other areas.  After my original retirement from the rat race, I did some engineering consultancy work and then tutored for the Open University, until 2011.  I still have many interests and as I wish to keep my mind active, I am currently studying for another degree, this time based mainly on human and molecular biology, although this has recently been put on hold due to health problems. In addition to formal study, I am also trying to keep up to date in most areas of science, by regularly reading science journals, Nature, Scientific American and New Scientist.

My blog which tends to lag quite a way behind my blip can be found at:-
