From September 2013 until November 2014, the eight artists who make up Absent Voices will be exploring the rich heritage of Inverclyde’s once mighty sugar industry.
The project, backed by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Riverside Inverclyde and Inverclyde Council, has been devised as a vehicle to preserve what remains of the area's industrial past in terms of physical reminders – such as buildings and street names.
Absent Voices also wants to explore less tangible elements of the sugar industry, like memories and recollections.
Its main physical focal point is the grade A-listed sugar shed building, situated at James Watt dock, Greenock, Scotland.
It is hoped that by exploring the past, a future will be found for this incredible building.
Please join us on this voyage of discovery.
The artists are: Alec Galloway, Rod Miller, Alastair Cook, Yvonne Lyon, Kevin McDermott, Ryan King, Alan Carlisle and Anne McKay.
