Hi there,
My name is Yvonne Beale and I embroidered panel 154 of the Great Tapestry of Scotland. Everyone who was involved in the project was asked to post photo's here on blipfoto to show how the panels were coming along. I spent over 900 hours embroidering Dolly and I really enjoyed working on such a large project and thinking about how to depict scientific themes in wool. I studied genetics at St Andrews University before doing a PhD at Edinburgh and I've been involved in science communication since the mid nineties, I have an interest in sci/art fusions. I'd asked for Dolly as this was a different way to depict scientific discoveries and I could draw upon my handicraft skills to bring two of my interests into play. Andrew Crummy kindly allowed me to come up with some motifs. During the time I was working on the panel we moved back to where I grew up, Orkney.
