....I just melt away.....

This is the bin near work were we social pariahs have to go for a smoke. At least it's the remains of the bin in the outcast zone. Sometime over a weekend a while ago it burned and melted, there are those who think it was caused by a casually discarded cigarette butt, but it's more likely that some of the local ne'er-do-wells torched it for a laugh.

So why have I blipped it? Well hebs and I were having a quick fix this morning when I remarked that we might be able to pass it off as a piece of modern art. As usually happens brains clicked into gear and the quips began to flow.

'Dig it up and send it down to the Tate Modern'

'Call it "Urban Decay"'

'No call it "The last outpost"'

'Never mind Tate Modern stick it in a local gallery with a £5000 price tag, someone will buy it.'

So I present to you........" I said smoking would be the death of you" a modern sculpture in plastics and tarmac, liberally sprinkled with dog ends, a crisp packet and a piece of string. This work encapsulates the estrangement of the modern smoker, isolated from society, consigned to the most salubrious of meeting places and yet still tied to the habit.

A snip at £5000, buyer collects.

Das vidanya moy padruga.
