St Kentigern's Episcopal Church - all seats free 2
Today I went back to Viewforth to check out the church from my Blip of the 18th February. It is good to see the building is still there, but, in a vivid contrast with yesterday's Blip, the windows have been bricked up, and the church, which stands in the midst of a temporary car park, is now apparently used as a storage facility.
An extract from Scottish Episcopal Clergy, 1689-2000 by David M. Bertie, provides a little more information:
"This congregation first gathered in 1859 as St. John's Mission in the Schoolroom in Earl Grey Street. A Mission Chapel was erected in St. Peter's Place, Viewforth in 1899; the chapel was rededicated to St. Kentigern in 1899; St. Kentigern's was closed in 1940."
Surely a building like this in such a prime location can be put to better use...
