Born on a Perilous Rock
What a beautiful day, really like spring had arrived. Unfortunately I had to work, but I slipped out at lunchtime to explore a nearby footpath I'd only recently become aware of. It's marked on the OS maps as a Public Right of Way, but appears to be closed and overgrown in parts. Shame, because it's a nice walk. A neighbour had pointed out to me that it features in the painting (R.G. Roberts, ca. 1850) on the front cover of the well-known book about the history of Aberystwyth "Born on a Perilous Rock". I tried to get the same viewpoint as in that painting, in the photo above, but didn't quite succeed. Will have to try again.
On the way, noticed the first flower of the year on the rare Western cinquefoil, at the only known site in Britain where it grows in the wild (discovered by me in 2006).
