Black-headed Gull
My first gull blip, and the best photo from a morning of intense irritations at RSPB Cliffe Pools.
My walk started badly when, whilst getting a better look at some Tufted Duck, I stepped in dog poo left by an inconsiderate dog walker. I love dogs, don't get me wrong, but dog fouling is just plain laziness on the part of the owner. Needless to say the air was blue for a good few minutes while I tried to remove the offending object.
Then towards the end of the walk the air was ripped with the sound of trial bikes, terrifying the birdlife. They weren't quite on the reserve, thankfully they can't get onto it, but for the gentleman on the opposite bank to where I was standing, they caused great consternation as all the birds he had been watching in silence fled from the noise.
Finally, I've spent the morning being tormented by the local Wren population. Fleeting glimpses and posing long enough for me to focus and then disappearing before I can get a shot off of them.
All in all a very frustrating morning, but at least I got this shot.
