Go into the light my boy........
A very sad day.
Our old boy, our best dog, and my husband's faithful friend has gone.
He was the closest to human in a dog you would ever know.
My husband bred him, and raised him, and trained him, and he was the most naturally gifted gundog I have known.
However he had been getting slower and due to me finding something which concerned me, I took him to work today, and found that the old soldier had a tumour which I could not operate on, nor do anything to save him.
I put him to sleep today, the hardest thing a vet ever has to do to their own animal.
He was really a gentle kind and extremely loving dog, who we nicknamed "the personnel officer" as he just had to "interview" everyone who came to see us.
He never complained, never whined or whimpered, rarely barked, and only his hatred of me tickling his feet would wind him up enough to howl, literally with laughter.
So all good things must come to an end, as has his time with us.
Go into the light my friend, do not be afraid, and may you collect many pheasants and ducks where your feet travel lightly on the grass.
