M 25
One has to admire the forward thinking Victorians. The sewers of London are a shining example, where they built with the expanding population in mind.
Here is another example.
When this viaduct was built for the railway line from Marylebone to Aylesbury in the late 1800's to traverse the Misbourne valley just south of Amersham, not only did they plan for the A 413, but also the 6 Lane M 25, that was not constructed for another 100 years. The arches of the viaduct are the perfect width for a motorway.
Recently the M25 has been widened to 4 lanes in each direction, so the motorway constructors simply made the hard shoulder lane go through the adjacent arch of the viaduct.
This never fails to bring a smile to my face when I drive along this northern section of the M 25 (Between J 16 & 17)
