Sing a song of sixpence

Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened the birds began to sing,
Oh wasn't that a dainty dish to set before the king?
The king was in his counting house counting out his money,
The queen was in the parlour eating bread and honey
The maid was in the garden hanging out the clothes,
When down came a blackbird and pecked off her nose!

Much to my surprise, there is quite a bit of English history connected to this nursery rhyme that I remember from my childhood. If you are interested, you can learn more here.

This particular blackbird was perched in a tree in the swampy area of our park when it posed for my blip on this lovely spring day...the first day our temperature has inched above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. I think it actually got to the mid-sixties before it started back down. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and it just felt good to be outside. Yay for spring!
