Reasons to visit Thirsk 6
Thirsk is an ancient town, it's earliest name, Tresche is possibly of Celtic origin. Evidence of Saxon and Norman settlement has been found but apart from the church most of it's architecture is a product of the 18th and 19th century. It has a market which is held on Saturdays and Mondays. This morning the market place was bustling in the sunshine though most of the stalls are on the shady side of the square at this time. The market is well worth a visit and this stall is one of the best fruit and vegetable stalls you could find anywhere. It is run by a cheerful chap whose parents and grandparents before him had the same stall. His produce is of the best quality and he is not afraid to try out some exotic fruit or veg. on us as well as supporting local produce. Alongside he has a flower and plant section which is a riot of colour, I'll keep that for another time. I can't resist market stalls anywhere in the world, the colours are fantastic, hope you all like this!
