lest we forget
" -Tarnow Cemetery Gate-
Before the war about 25,000 Jews lived in Tarnow, a city 45 miles east of Cracow in southern Poland. The German Army occupied Tarnow on September 8, 1939. From June 11-15, 1942, SS troops killed between 5,000 and 10,000 Jewish residents, mostly children and the elderly. Many of them were taken into The Jewish Cemetery and shot. This is the wrought iron gate of the cemetery."
