....Choking on......
their supper. This, Blip world, is "The Cricket Club" arch quiz rivals and winners of this year's quiz league.
But they didn't win tonight....oh no....they didn't win tonight!!!!!!
We've had an apology from the question setters about the several weeks of skewed questions...but it's too late now. We've also had an apology about the fixture list that gave us 7 home games in the second half of the season and allowed the visiting teams to pick the second (easier) set of questions, which derailed our season...but it's too late now. we're runners-up (or first losers if you prefer).
But we salvaged pride by beating this lot tonight
Round 1 Won 7-5
Round 2 individuals and I got dumped with latin mottoes! Fortunately the opponent couldn't translate the Olympic motto of Faster, Higher, Stronger into Latin, but I could for a bonus and then I translated the RAF motto of Through adversity to the stars for my two points, and Terry, Lee and Phil got their questions on British coins, Foreign car makers and Cinema trios for a round score of 9-6
Total 16-11.
Round 3 drew 6-6
Total 22-17
Round 4
Joy of joy's they wiped out on the 8 point round (Theme westerns) by being cocky and not getting the High Noon question!
We settled for 4 points on the Clint Eastwood song from Paint Your wagon
Won 4-0
Total 26-17
Half time....... fag and beer and a quiet gloat!
Round 5 Tough round but ended in a draw 8-8 thanks to us getting "In 1949, which starlet appearing in Love Happy was described by Groucho Marx as a cross between Mae West, Theda Barra and Little Bo-Peep?"
Total 34-25
Round 6 Four or two pointers
We settled for 4 two pointers for 8 and they manged 3 two pointers for 6. We should have taken one of the 4 pointers, because I do know element number 11 on the periodic table!!!, but we were playing safe!
Total
42-31
Round 7 Individuals..more Latin for me "The animal Ailuropoda malanoleuca is the symbol of which Consevation organisation?" Didn't get it, manged to translate the Latin but then picked the wrong organisation....doh! Terry scored his and a bonus on Verbal Insults, Phil blanked on Chickens Maybe, but Lee got his on Oscar winning songs of the 60's
Lost 5-6
Total 47-37
Last round...nail biter, skewed questions appeared again. For us "Which game bird lives in a nest called a nye from the French for nest?" No idea! For them "Which bird is known for it's large tail display?" err...Peacock, easy or what. We saved ourselves by knowing which actor turned down the role of Columbo because he said it would interfere with his golf.
We lost the round 2-9!
Total score 49-46.
And then we stuffed them in the beer round as well and took the money.
Am a happy, happy bunny tonight!!!!
Das vidanya and na zdrovya, the vodka bottle is out, might pay for it at work tomorrow.
Oh you want the answers?
