A noisy night
Don't let anyone fool you that you get peace and quiet in the countryside. As I woke this morning the noises outside were non-stop. Jays were screeching from the high tops of the trees, all manner of ducks were restless through the night, foxes were barking, swans were whooping, deer were coughing, barn owls and tawny owls were at it throughout the night. Truth be told though it was absolutely magnificent! As someone who is more used to camping on the high hills where the most you are likely to hear is the rutting stag, it was great to be camped down low, at the edge of the Tyne estuary and with a magnificent natural woodland behind me. That was key I think, the old, mature woodland providing shelter for all manner of wildlife.
I was up to see a nice enough sunrise at about 06:20 and was packed up and on the road just after 07:30. The light was beautiful and the roads quiet as I made my way through East Lothian with my aim being the well known Falko Konditormeister in Gullane where I had a cup of tea and a swiss chocolate nut tart - very nice as well.
Home in no rush whatsoever on such a lovely spring day at about 13:30 having cycled 151 kms over the last two days.
