Where's Patrick
This is part of St Andrews University. About this spot Patrick Hamilton in 1528 at the grand age of 24 was burnt alive for heresy. He has become influenced by Martin Luther and was teaching Lutherian principles. He was the first martyr of the scottish reformation. Not too many years later you were just as likely to get burnt for being catholic. By the time Mary Queen of Scots came into power in 1542 the situation was nearly reversed.
Local legend has it that Patrick's face was etched into the stonework at the time of burning......... cue spooky ooooOOOooooOOO music. It is possible to make out his face in the stone work.
I decided to not zoom into the face because it's just too obvious then. This way you can see the view from the spot where Patrick was burnt.
